Some good reasons to be interested in the Contenders when you like David Olney:

We have all worked with olney in various capacities for many years:

  • The band without Tommy Goldsmith who was having an operation, backed Olney in late '70s for a short tour.
  • First time for David Olney leading a band.
Jimbeau, Runkle and Tommy Goldsmith were all X-Rays (David's band) at various times.
  • Walter and Champ sing on Roses.

The Contenders Light from Carolina CD contains Steve's Greensboro Blues, a song inspired by Dave Olney's Original Greensboro Blues.

I Love My Wife, written by Tommy Goldsmith, also on the CD, was recorded by Dave on Border Crossing

Also, Dave opened many shows for the Contenders.

Some say his song Contender was inspired by the band.

We used to do his song Soldier of Misfortune.

We've all been friends a long time.
