Rusty Gate, by Andy Hunt

Momma kicked me out

When I was fourteen

Cause I am evil and mean

Cuss like a drunkard

And drank like one, too

Was cruel and nasty, nobody's fool.

Refrain: It's a long, long time I've not been back

To the rusty gate by the by the railway track

Flowers growing up over the porch

Are still there, do you carry a torch?

I've got a little woman

Back home who knows

Down a long thorny branch

There grows a rose

So she scrambled up the briar

And she stole the bloom

And spent ten long years

In a cold dark room

Refrain: It's a long, long time I've not been back

To the rusty gate by the by the railway track

Flowers growing up over the porch

Are you still there, do you carry a torch?

I got one gold tooth

And a ten-inch scar

From some trouble I had

In a New York bar

Never mean to hurt nobody

He just got in the way

Now I think like there's gonna be

Hell to pay

Refrain: It's a long, long time I've not been back

To the rusty gate by the by the railway track

Flowers growing up over the porch

Are you still there, do you carry a torch?

Never told her that I loved her

Never showed her I cared

Now she's just like me and it don't seem fair

Refrain: It's a long, long time I've not been back

To the rusty gate by the by the railway track

Flowers growing up over the porch

Are you still there, do you carry a torch?
